On 26 August 2013, the Immigration Bureau announced that, with immediate effect, long-term visa applications which have been approved will only be valid up to the expiry date of the applicant’s passport. Where the applicant’s passport validity expires before the expiry date of the long-term visa, the remaining months on the long-term visa can no longer be transferred to the applicant’s new passport – a new application with the requisite supporting documents and the fee must be re-submitted and paid.
