The Bangkok Post reports that two local mobile operators, in alliance with TOT, will launch a 4G wireless broadband trial by the end of the year.
Details are somewhat sketchy, and the names of the two firms remain confidential, but according to the report, the two operators will be submitting their trial proposals this week, and each will install equipment in 200 locations.
TOT is also in talks with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to ask permission to use 30 MHz of the 64-MHz bandwidth on the 2300-MHz frequency during the trial.
4G services would represent a quantum leap for telecommunications in Thailand, which is yet to enjoy functioning 3G services.
