The deadline for companies wanting to participate in the 3G spectrum auction ended on 28 September.

The Bangkok Post reported that although 7 companies from 11 groups had collected 3G application forms, it is nonetheless widely expected by industry observers that only the three major mobile operators – AIS, DTAC and TRUE – will participate in the bid.

That sentiment seems to be reflected in the share prices of the three major mobile operators, as reported here.

The 45 MHz spectrum will be auctioned on October 16. The 15 MHz per operator cap imposed on bidders divides neatly between the three major operators. Bid winners will be announced on October 22.
